La acerola es la fruta más rica en vitamina C. esta fruta no era muy apreciada hasta que en el año 1946 unos investigadores de la universidad de puerto rico analizaron su contenido en vitamina C y haber encontrado la fuente más importante de esta vitamina, contiene hasta 2520mg/100g, esto depende su sus variedades.
También contiene acido málico y flavonoides como la rutina y la hesperidina.
La vitamina C aumenta la producción de interferón, una proteína que inhibe la multiplicación delos virus. Estimula el sistema inmunitario. Por eso esta fruta es muy recomendable en procesos víricos, como la gripe o resfriados.
La acerola es muy parecida a la cereza, tiene que estar muy madura para su consumo, pero es un poco agria.
Podemos ingerirla también en zumos y combinarla con otras frutas.
